Step 1:
Bankruptcy Credit Counseling Class and Certification
When you’re ready to file for bankruptcy, the first step is to take a mandatory pre-filing Bankruptcy Credit Counseling class with an approved provider such as National Financial Literacy FoundationSM.
A Simple Process
You can take the National Financial Literacy Foundation (“NFLF”) Bankruptcy Credit Counseling course online or by phone.
If you choose the online class, please note that after completing the online course you must speak with a live NFLF counselor to complete your counseling session. NFLF counselors are available Monday through Friday from 9am to 9pm Eastern Time. (If you make an initial call to NFLF to register, this does not satisfy this requirement — you must contact a counselor again after completing the online portion of the course.)
Our course fee covers both single and joint filers. There is no additional charge for taking the course with your spouse.
Once you complete this bankruptcy credit counseling course process, you and your spouse (if taking the course jointly) will each be issued a certificate of completion. The certificate(s) will quickly be sent to both you and your attorney (if you are working with one) and is to be included as part of the paperwork for the bankruptcy filing process with the court.
Why not register now? The NFLF bankruptcy credit counseling course is available online or by phone.
